As the areas north and east of the French Quarter are rife with gangs, Mason learned how fend for himself from early in life. Growing up in the fringe of mainstream society, Mason's street education ranged from learning how to con tourists to the outright brutality of the New Orleans underworld. Getting his first tattoo at the age of 15, he also recieved his first conviction. Not long after getting a job in a tattoo parlor frequented by bikers and the like, he soon came to the aquaintence of a certain biker by the name of Mack the Knife, a former/retired pro wrestler who taught him some tricks of the trade. As with the tattoos, Mason became hooked on the thought of getting paid to brutalize people and began to actively persue becoming a pro wrestler.

Because of his slim build Mason focused more on control and technique over power as he began his training. Mack, himself a throwback to the golden age of of wrestling, taught Mason everything he knew of "old school" wrestling. At the same time, Mason also began teaching himself other forms of grappling such as greco-roman wrestling, Ju-Jutso, Aikido, and Judo. As Paul learned, he began to love the feeling of an opponent's breath fading and the finality of the various submission moves and so he strove to master that particular technique of wrestling. Being unable to gain entrance to any offical schools or too young to join the various indie wrestling promotions, Mason practised what he learned on the street. Unlike other bullies however, Mason became dually feared both for his propensity to use impact wrestling moves on the hard New Orleans streets, but for his family name as well which had long deep roots in the history of the city. Rumours of connections to the old Guilds that used to run the Crescent city... and to the other dark, shadowy side of the city's history.

After he turned 18, Mason and Mack began touring the indie circuit eventually travelling to both the Mexico and Japan circuits before returning to the US. In the ten years Paul Mason has been wrestling he has ammassed an ugly reputation for irritatbily, his overly foul mouth, and his habitual tendency for breaking from set match outlines. Preferring to end matches as he deemed fit and intending to be as brutal to his opponent as possible. His brutality also extend out of the ring as well as he has carried an extremely hostile attitude towards audiences with him throughout his career. Only recently has Paul Mason gotten his break, despite his reputation and attitude, first wrestling in the now defunct SCJW, and currently in the NAWA.
